The Complete Node.js Developer Course (3rd Edition) Review

Who Are the Instructors?

Let’s meet the two instructors of The Complete Node.js Developer Course (3rd Edition) before digging into the details of the review.

Andrew Mead
Andrew Mead is a full-stack developer living in Philadelphia. He has a Computer Science degree from Temple University and been programming for just over a decade. He’s helped companies like Siemens, Mixergy, and Parkloco launch production web applications to their customers.

What Interests Me

1. Upbeat Instructor

I don’t know if this applies to everybody else, but the attitude is a make-or-break factor for me. Luckily, Andrew is so upbeat and positive that he lifts my mood every time I watch his videos. He is also very knowledgeable regarding real-world applications and thorough with all the tools used for testing purposes, developing APIs, setting up database and creating routes for server needs.

2. Write by Myself

This is a tricky area. As the instructor doesn’t really explain every code he wrote on the screen, some students cannot follow, myself included. Yet for me, I think the course has given enough instructions and as I was not following the pace the course, I had to ask myself to slow down and write each and every single code on my own. This has resulted in me researching and knowing more stuff than I had expected. So, this can actually be either a pro or a con depending on your situation.

What Can Be Changed

Although this is a good introductory course to Node.js, it lacks the explanations for complex concepts like asynchronous functions, async/await and the like. The discussion panel is a testimony to that. Students are asking questions pertinent to the seemingly weird behaviors Node js exhibits since the instructor hasn’t really spent much time explaining the underlying behavior of Node.

Make Cool Apps with Node.js

The Complete Node.js Developer Course (3rd Edition) is the right course for you if you are looking for making some inconsequential cool apps. Unfortunately, this course does not cover most of the internal nitty-gritty and appears to be a monologic video as the instructor codes. Still, it would provide you with the necessary knowledge to get started with Node.js.
